Why I Chose Reflexology.
People and clients often ask, ‘why reflexology’ and I tell them how I’ve always loved my feet being massaged and touched since I was a little girl. To feel the tension ease away, for me, is just amazing. We’re on our feet most of the time, with an adult taking on average 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day walking or running around. For women, they’re often squeezed into heels and shoes all day and we tend to neglect them most of the time by not moisturising or looking after them. So, to sit down and have someone pay attention to them, is just bliss!
As a little girl, I used to get my Mom to sit and rub my feet, but now I’m very fortunate to have a husband who doesn’t mind touching them. More importantly, when either of us have had a stressful day, we know exactly what to do, we grab a foot! Within minutes we are able to dispel each other’s stress and anxiety. Each foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, 19 muscles and tendons and nearly 4000 nerves. It’s no wonder I feel so much more relaxed after my feet have been massaged. But not all husbands or partners like to touch our tootsies and it’s because of this, that I want to be able to help others feel relaxed, less stressed and calmer.
Now as a qualified reflexologist, it’s great that I now know and fully understand what I’ve enjoyed so much over the years. I love being able to visualise a map of the body on the soles of each foot and in using a gentle massage technique, be able to work on the various reflexes which correspond to different parts of the body, organs and glands. In working these reflexes I’m able to support the body and bring it back into balance to promote good health and wellbeing. After all your feet mirror your general health and I find this fascinating.
It’s not all about feet either, it’s getting to know my clients, to understand their lifestyle and to help them with their general wellbeing. To give them the opportunity and space to relax and provide their body the time to unwind and reconnect.
Reflexology is a non-invasive, complementary therapy. All it requires is for you to kick off your shoes and socks and to sit back and relax. Key benefits include release of tension and stress, improved frame of mind, deep relaxation and improved sleep. It also helps to improve circulation, cleanse the body of toxins and impurities and revitalise energy levels.
It’s funny how a foot rub as a child has now resulted in me being a professional reflexologist and I love it!
